A revolutionary idea in animal containment, a radio dog fence is a hassle-free method of keeping track of your pet. A radio dog fence does not utilize the traditional physical fence but is nevertheless safe and proven very effective. Once you try a radio dog fence, you'll never go back to those outdated, difficult to install, and view-obstructing fences again. How Does a Radio Dog Fence Work? The radio dog fence has two main components: a wire, which is buried along the boundary lines, and a pet collar, which is equipped with a battery-operated receiver that connects the dog's movements with the defined perimeter. Every time the dog approaches the set limits, a signal is transmitted along that boundary and sent to the receiver on the dog's collar. This system works up to a maximum of about 15 feet. In dog training, a four- to seven-foot distance is normally used. As soon as the dog gets to a particular distance near the wire, the receiver emits a beeping sound. If the animal ignores this warning sound and still attempts to cross the boundary (marked by the wire), he gets a correction in the form of a mild electric shock. The dog is, however, more surprised than harmed. Over time, your dog will be able to understand the limits within which he can move freely. Once he does, training will bear fruit; your dog will be able to avoid the periphery and will no longer attempt to cross the boundary even without the collar. The radio fence works even for areas as large as two acres. Most pet shops carry the radio dog fence but you can also canvass for a radio dog fence unit online. Radio dog fence units have also been used for other pets such as cats. Radio dog fence manufacturers offer two basic types of radio dog fences: a radio dog fence type that can be used for dogs five pounds or more who are easily trainable; the other type of radio dog fence is designed for dogs that are stubborn and not as easily trained. These devices also come in varying degrees of adjustable correction. Level 1 correction is the mildest while Level 5 is the strongest correction level. , Dog Fencing Choices.com
